The Author
Hello!
My name is Jared Hunt, I live in Brisbane, and I’m 32 years old. By trade, I am a Fitter and Turner, and I have spent my career working in maintenance and manufacturing, most recently in management roles.
Alongside my daily 9-5, I am the author of The Guide to Life After School range. The idea for the first book came to me one day during a drive to work. It was simply a thought of ‘I should try to write a book teaching all the basics for life after school. Why doesn’t anyone teach us that?’. Later that day I found myself with some spare time, and the idea was still very much at the forefront of my mind, so I made a start. Within no time at all, I had the first 2,000 words of the draft that would soon become the first book, and the beginning of a project that has now grown into a series of 5 (soon to be 7) guides that cover everything from tax, budgeting, and renting, through to careers, feeding yourself, buying a house, how to vote, and even less conventional topics like being your own friend when life gets tough.
What began as a simple book has slowly grown to reach thousands of families, schools, and organisations around the country, and it’s been a privilege to be a part of. The most common sentence that comes from these books is ‘I wish I had something like this when I was younger!’, and that’s what it’s about. The goal isn’t to provide all the answers. The goal is to provide young Aussies with a head start on their own journey through life after
school, and to give them a better chance than what their parents had at their age.
While this is simply a short introduction, let it also serve a second purpose and encourage you to not hold back from trying something new. Give it your best go and see what happens. Thank you for being here with me!
